Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Specialist

(Part time, 25 hours a week)

We are looking for a professional who has:

  • Minimum of associate degree in social work, deaf studies, rehabilitation, human services, or a related field
  • Ability to communicate in American Sign Language and write effectively
  • Knowledge of deaf culture and accessibility issues for deaf, hard of hearing, and deafblind individuals
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Personal transportation for community events, training, and appointments
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds

The

Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Specialist

will:

  • Use email, calendar, Google Drive, and Microsoft Office 365 effectively
  • Conduct meetings in person and via Zoom, MS Teams, or Google Meet
  • Demonstrate specialized technology including relay services and assistive devices
  • Assess consumer needs for assistive devices
  • Deliver, install, train on, and troubleshoot assistive devices
  • Build relationships and work with people in rural communities
  • Work independently, with limited supervision, in mostly solo environments
  • Prepare reports and other documents required by the Executive Director and Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Location:

Office in Abingdon, VA, covering Southwest Virginia including Abingdon, Bristol, Galax, Norton, Pulaski, Radford, Wise, and surrounding areas
